Sweet Soy Chicken and Greens

This sweet soy chicken and greens is one of those easy dinners that makes you feel like you have really got your life together, even if the day has been complete chaos. The chicken turns sticky and caramelised in the oven, the beans cook right on the tray, and you barely have to do a thing.

It is budget-friendly, family-friendly and packed with that sweet-salty flavour that always goes down well. Pop some rice on the side and dinner is sorted.

It is all cooked on one tray, which means less mess and less fuss. The chicken comes out sticky and glossy, and the beans make it feel like a proper complete dinner.

Make sure you pour over any extra sauce so the chicken gets plenty of that sticky soy flavour while it bakes. Add the beans for the last 10 minutes so they stay tender without going too soft.

Serve it hot with steamed rice and plenty of the sticky sauce spooned over the top. It is a great one for busy weeknights when you want something easy that still feels like a proper dinner.

This sweet soy chicken and greens is an easy oven dinner with sticky, caramelised chicken and tender green beans. It uses simple ingredients, takes hardly any prep and works brilliantly for busy weeknights. Serve it with rice for a fuss-free family meal.

Ingredients
 

  • 2 kg chicken pieces
  • 1 cup soy sauce
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tsp black pepper
  • 500 g green bean

Method
 

  1. Mix the soy sauce, brown sugar and pepper in a bowl until the sugar starts to dissolve.
  2. Dip the chicken pieces into the soy mixture and place them onto a lined baking tray.
  3. Pour over any remaining sauce so everything gets lovely and sticky.
  4. Bake the chicken at 200C for 30 minutes.
  5. While that’s cooking, Trim the tops and tails off the green beans.
  6. With 10 minutes to go, Scatter the beans over the chicken and give them a light spray of olive oil.
  7. Pop it back in the oven until the chicken is sticky and caramelised and the beans are tender.
  8. Serve it hot with steamed rice and plenty of that sticky sauce. 😍
