Chocolate Fudge Cake: The Secret Ingredient

What makes this chocolate fudge cake stand out from the rest? It’s all about the ingredients. Using natural yoghurt in the batter adds a delightful tang and keeps the cake incredibly moist without being too heavy. Plus, the yoghurt helps to balance out the sweetness, giving you that perfect fudge cake experience. And let’s not forget the oil – it’s what gives this cake its signature tenderness and fudgy texture. By using oil instead of butter, we’re keeping the cake moist and soft, even after a few days (if it lasts that long!).
To make the Ultimate Chocolate Fudge Cake, it’s important to choose the right ingredients:
Here are a few tips to ensure your chocolate fudge cake turns out perfectly every time:
While the cake is amazing on its own, the icing really takes it to the next level. This simple chocolate ganache is made with just two ingredients – cream and dark chocolate chips. The cream adds a velvety smoothness, while the chocolate chips provide that rich, chocolatey flavour we all love. Simply heat the cream, pour it over the chocolate chips, and stir until you have a silky, glossy icing. Let it cool slightly before spreading it over your cooled cake for a beautiful finish
This Ultimate Chocolate Fudge Cake is incredibly versatile and can be paired with all sorts of treats to make your dessert experience even better:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda

  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups natural yoghurt
  • 1 cup oil

  • 1/2 cup cream

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C – let’s get that cake baking!
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, yoghurt, and oil until it’s smooth and creamy. This is the base of our cake, yum!
  3. Add the self-raising flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and those delicious chocolate chips. Stir it all together until just combined – don’t overmix!
  4. Pour your chocolatey batter into a lined and oiled cake tin. Smooth out the top and get it ready for baking.
  5. Bake in the oven for 1 hour, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Your kitchen will smell amazing!
  6. While the cake is baking, let’s make some icing! In a microwave-safe bowl, heat the cream and dark chocolate chips for 1 minute. Stir until it’s silky smooth, then let it cool. It’s going to be the perfect topping!
  7. Once your cake and icing are cool, spread the icing generously on top. Go ahead, be as generous as you like – more chocolate never hurt anyone!
