Pizza Scrolls: Why You’ll Fall in Love with These
Here’s the deal: These pizza scrolls using puff pastry tick all the boxes. They’re:
Easy to make (like, truly easy)
Freezer-friendly
Kid-approved
Delicious warm OR cold
Perfect for entertaining or meal prep
Honestly, if you’re not making a double batch, you’re doing it wrong. Every time I bake these, they disappear faster than I can say “save one for me!”
And the SMELL that fills your kitchen…pure cheesy, tomato-y, pastry heaven. If that’s not enough to tempt you, I don’t know what is!
Tips and Tricks for Perfect Pizza Scrolls Every Time
Here are a few little tricks that’ll take your pizza scrolls from good to GREAT:
Chill the log before slicing:
After you roll up the pastry, chuck it in the fridge for 30 minutes. This firms everything up so you get clean, neat scrolls that hold their shape when baking.
Don’t overdo the fillings:
I know it’s tempting to go nuts with cheese and toppings (I’ve been there too), but too much and your scrolls will unravel or get soggy. Keep it balanced!
Use baking paper:
Always line your tray so you get golden bottoms and easy clean-up.
Seal with love:
Leave a 2cm strip on one end of the pastry free of filling—that’s your glue strip. It keeps your scrolls sealed and lovely when baking.
Use a sharp knife:
Or even better, a serrated knife to slice the scrolls cleanly.
Best Ingredients to Use for Maximum Flavour
The beauty of this pizza scroll recipe is how flexible it is—but using quality ingredients makes a big difference. Here’s what I swear by:
Puff pastry – I always go for all-butter puff pastry for that rich, flaky finish. You can find Aussie brands at Coles or Woolies that are top-notch.
Pizza sauce – A good-quality pizza sauce with garlic and herbs will elevate everything. Or, make your own with tinned tomatoes, garlic, and a pinch of sugar!
Cheese – Pizza cheese blends (like mozzarella + cheddar) are perfect. They melt well and bring that stringy cheese pull we all love.
Protein – Diced ham, shredded BBQ chicken, chopped pepperoni, or crispy bacon are all winners.
You can even make veggie versions with sautéed mushrooms, capsicum, olives, or baby spinach.
How to Serve Pizza Scrolls for Maximum Enjoyment
These easy pizza scrolls are incredibly versatile. Here are some ways I love serving them:
Lunchbox Hero: Perfect cold and don’t need reheating!
Snack Platter Star: Serve warm on a platter with dips like garlic aioli, marinara, or even guacamole.
Picnic or Road Trip Treat: They’re portable and don’t make a mess—win!
Breakfast On-the-Go: Who says you can’t have pizza for brekkie?
Pair them with a green salad for a light meal or serve alongside a bowl of soup for a comforting lunch.
Storage and Freezing Tips
These pizza puff pastry scrolls are brilliant for batch cooking. Here’s how to store them:
- In the fridge: Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days. Reheat in the oven for 5–10 minutes to crisp them back up, or enjoy cold straight from the fridge.
- In the freezer: After baking and cooling, freeze the scrolls on a tray, then transfer to a container or ziplock bag. They’ll keep for up to 2 months. Reheat from frozen at 180°C for 10–15 minutes, or until hot and crispy.
You can also freeze the unbaked log (before slicing). Just thaw slightly before cutting into scrolls and baking.

Description
THESE PIZZA SCROLLS ARE NEXT-LEVEL YUM!
I’m telling you now—once you make these, you’ll never bother with store-bought scrolls again! These cheesy, crispy, golden Pizza Scrolls are ridiculously easy and perfect for lunchboxes, after-school snacks, or movie night munchies. Plus, you can mix up the fillings with whatever you’ve got in the fridge!
Ingredients
- 2 puff pastry sheets
- 1/2 cup pizza sauce
- 300g shredded or diced ham, pepperoni, bacon, chicken—whatever you love!
- 2 cups pizza cheese
Tip: Don’t overfill or they’ll unroll like a dodgy yoga mat.
Instructions
- Lay your two pastry sheets side by side so they overlap a little. Press the join together with a fork so they stick.
- Spread pizza sauce all over—go right to the edges except for the last inch on one short end (leave that bit bare so it seals properly).
- Sprinkle your meat and cheese toppings all over the sauce, right to the edges.
- Start rolling from the filled short end towards the plain edge. Keep it tight! That bare bit of pastry will help the log stay sealed.
- Pop the log in the fridge for 30 mins—it’ll slice so much easier once chilled.
- Cut into 3cm wide scrolls and place on a lined tray, spaced out.
- Bake at 200°C for 25 minutes or until golden, melty, and absolutely mouth-watering.
