Why These Apple Danishes are a Must-Try
Who doesn’t love a buttery, flaky pastry? Add a filling of warm, cinnamon-spiced apples, and you’ve got a treat that feels like a hug on a plate. Here’s why these danishes are a game-changer:
- Easy to make: No special equipment or hours of prep required.
- Perfect for any occasion: Serve them at brunch, afternoon tea, or as dessert.
- Customisable: Not a fan of apples? Swap them out for pears or berries.
Tips and Tricks for Perfect Apple Danishes
- The right puff pastry: Opt for a high-quality, buttery puff pastry. The better the pastry, the flakier and tastier your danishes will be.
- Don’t overfill: Resist the urge to load them up with apples. Too much filling will make your pastry soggy.
- Egg wash is key: A good egg wash gives your danishes that beautiful golden colour that screams “professional baker.”
- Warm honey glaze: This step takes your danishes from good to unforgettable. Brush it on while they’re still warm for a glossy finish.
The Best Ingredients for Your Apple Danishes
Puff Pastry: Look for an all-butter option for the richest flavour. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can even make your own!
Apples: Canned apples work wonderfully in this recipe for ease, but if you want to go the extra mile, fresh Granny Smiths or Pink Ladies will give a delicious tangy-sweet balance.
Spices: Cinnamon is the hero here, but a pinch of nutmeg or allspice can elevate the flavour profile.
Honey: A drizzle of Australian honey adds a natural sweetness and gorgeous shine.
Serving Suggestions and Pairings
- Brunch spread: Pair your apple danishes with a selection of fresh fruits, scrambled eggs, and a pot of tea or coffee.
- Dessert time: Serve with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for extra indulgence.
- Afternoon tea: These are perfect with a hot cup of Earl Grey or chai tea.
